City
More information on the works
Liang Juhui's installation ? City ? is a large wooden pagoda.
In its center images of people, of the busy crowd are projected on the floor, creating the impression of a crowded square within this sacred building structure.
The structure itself as well as the projections can be understood as a representation of accumulation, accumulation of people, objects, buildings, as evident in Chinese cities and metropolises.
The principle of the construction of a pagoda itself is accumulation, too, nevertheless, an accumulation according to a clear regular concept, different from the chaotic accumulation in cities, in the human world.
The clearly structured accumulation visible in the pagoda therefore can be read as a metaphor for the spiritual world and "City" as the attempt to reintroduce these aspects into the realm of man.
